We are empowering communities and protecting ecosystems.

Our vision is to inspire future and current generations of Latinos to reconnect with the ecosystems that shaped their cultural identity, by nurturing environmental stewardship and cultivating a stronger sense of pride and responsibility for preserving the land and its heritage.

Founder Sara Lopez brings authentic personal connections and storytelling to The Jungle Journal, creating a unique platform that highlights diverse cultures and environmental conservation with heartfelt, firsthand experiences.

What sets The Jungle Journal apart is the personal connection and deep relationships Sara Lopez has cultivated with the communities it highlights, whether online, through panel discussions, or in on-the-ground engagements. Her work carries the weight of someone who has truly earned the trust of the people whose stories she shares.

Growing up along the U.S.-Mexico border, Sara Lopez gained a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding cultural heritage, migration, and belonging—perspectives that would go on to shape her life’s work. Her ability to draw from these firsthand experiences and her borderland upbringing allows her to engage in broader conversations about culture and conservation with a unique depth and authenticity.

Additionally with over six years of experience working in the Lacandona Jungle of Southern Mexico, Sara serves as a bridge, sharing her unique insights and firsthand knowledge to connect others with the vital cultural and environmental narrative. Her interactive lectures, often delivered at Latino-majority schools and spaces, go beyond surface-level education— they invite audiences to see the intrinsic link between land and heritage.  This is what sets The Jungle Journal apart: Sara doesn’t just tell stories; she creates connections, inviting others to understand—and most importantly, to care.

At The Jungle Journal we advocate for environmental responsibility and cultural perseverance. We spotlight content and initiatives that allow our followership to stay up to date on the latest in environmental conservation and cultural heritage preservation ensuring the preservation of this knowledge for generations to come.

We encourage a rediscovery of cultural heritage, offering the link to stewardship and ancestral pride. Through advocacy, impactful storytelling, thoughtful lectures, and hands-on initiatives, we empower everyday viewers with knowledge to tackle our climate reality, motivate future climate leaders, and stand in equitable allyship with communities whose ecosystems are affected by climate change.

We celebrate the cultural variety across Latin America and the deep indigenous history that has helped create the Latino identity. This helps foster allyship within the Latino community, across the Caribbean and into the Americas.

Dedicated to protecting ecosystems and biodiversity, we inspire action and environmental stewardship by connecting climate issues to cultural heritage. Our mission promotes a more harmonious relationship and understanding between Latino communities and the natural landscapes that have shaped their identities.
